This Scottish #travel#agency#advertisement has the internet in an uproar over just how imperfectly perfect it is. Yes, it is a spoof of a Virgin ad, but this is what happens when reality television runs so rampant that people start to believe it is what we are supposed to aspire to in video production!
An independent high street travel agent has taken the advertising world by the scruff of the neck with an award-worthy promo video.
The travel agent’s tongue-in-cheek advert, which enlisted a flash mob of 1,000 villagers to dance throughout, has gone viral.
Uploaded three days ago and simply entitled #thorne Travel Advert 2014, it has already had nearly 3,000 views – not bad going for a pretty obscure Scottish holiday firm.
Why? It has everything. Pounding club soundtrack? Check. Spine-tingling special effects? Check. Uplifting narrative and subtle characterisation? Check. Plenty of determined, smiling agent, strutting hands-on-hips in formation? Check mate.
“It’s a spoof of the Virgin advert,” explained Christina Haywood, assistant manager at the firm, “but we know we don’t look like them, don’t worry.”
Christina was one of the “pink ladies” who walk in formation down the village street where the firm is based, in Kilwinning, just outside of Kilmarnock in Ayrshire, #scotland. The tight-fitting dresses are the staff’s actual uniform.
Co-ordinating the perfect strut took staff four days to perfect in the office. “We got some funny looks through the window, I can tell you.”
eShe said the multi-generational crowd of extras was recruited on Faceook and through word of mouth. “We’re really quite well known in the village. Lots of customers got involved and had a great time.”
The response to the video has been better than anyone hoped for. “It’s had 40,000 views on Facebook already, she said. It just exploded.”
With bookings up too, it looks as if all the effort was worth it.
